The United States of America is the symbol of democracy and freedom in the world, although it may not be thoroughly right in some cases. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., the government and the authorities of the United States push harsher security screening for migrants and even citizens. This security screening is even harder for people from Muslim majority countries. Even with the stronger security screening, many other terrorist attacks occurred after 9/11 in the United States. Also, many other attacks happened by local Americans who were mentally unstable. All these attacks created fear among the American people and the government. All thirteen of us had to go through security background checks a few months before going to Washington for visiting the Pentagon. All guests are required to have a sponsor for access to the Pentagon and for more than three guests, sponsors may ask for an exception to the policy. We were more than three and Professor Speel got an exception for us. When we got close to the Pentagon building, Professor Speel asked us to stay calm upon arrival so that the guards at the entrance would not think that we were protesting. We were not all allowed to go at the same time into the building and they made us go in small groups to enter the building and go through the security screening. All of us must present our passports at the entry. All of us and our belongings were required to go through security screening. All possessions were required to go through an x-ray machine. After I passed the security screening and entered the Pentagon, Professor Speel told me "here you are, an Iranian guy in the Pentagon". We were at the Pentagon for about two hours and two escorts were with us all the time. It is the duty of the escorts to remain with their visitors in all circumstances. We were not allowed to have our phones on and we were warned that we would go through anti terrorist screening if we did not follow the roles. We were not even allowed to use the bathroom, or eat or drink water during our visit. The security was high, but necessary. The Pentagon was one of the 9/11 targets and it is a very important and sensitive government building in the United States. Everyone had to go one by one through the security screening, even the employees of the Pentagon. There is even a shopping centre at the Pentagon only for employees because the entrance security is a long process that is why there is a shopping centre only for employees to get their needs, so they do not need to leave the building.
