Lisha’s uncle introduced her to stickball and social dancing. Most importantly he explained to her the meaning of what it means to be the Choctaw people. “It is important to keep our culture alive, as it is slowly dying,” Lisha says. People of her tribe are slowly forgetting to teach their children the Choctaw language and what it means to be Choctaw. Lisha became the 2017 district Choctaw princess and now many young Choctaw girls look up to her. It is now a part of her responsibility to keep her culture alive. As the Choctaw princess she does volunteer work at the community center and reads to the children in her community. She now wants to spread the importance of her tribe to the younger generation of tribal members. Whether it be telling the children in her community or passing along her knowledge to her future
