Racial bias and cultural stereotyping exists in all cultures, and it is not exclusive towards black people. Society and particularly the media, has portrayed black people as thieves, rapist, and scums of the earth who has not accomplished anything for over a century as compared to other minority groups who came to America after them. That being said, those who are bigoted by social norms still believe in all the negativities about minorities, which then causes them to create a subconscious stereotype and racial prejudice in their mind. The Clarke Doll Experiment was conducted on black children and the purpose was to provide answers regarding which doll (a black doll or white doll), were nicer, smarter and prettier (Proulx, 2011). After administering the tests to the following black children, Dr. Kenneth Clark revealed that a majority of black children prefers to play with the white doll because it is prettier, and have positive attributes such as intelligence and trustworthiness. Dr. Kenneth then asked each individual black child to pick the doll that closely resembles them, and a majority picked the black doll, whereas others simply ran away crying (Proulx, 2011).
