¨I wanted to punch my dad in the face. I wanted to punch him in the nose and make him bleed. I wanted to punch him in the eye and make him blind¨ This is a quote from Arnold a.k.a Junior from his first interaction with his dad, Arnold, in the book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Oscar, Juniors dog, is very sick and the Spirit family is very poor they can't afford to take him to the vet. They hate to see him suffering and they know he is going to die soon, so his dad decides to put Oscar out of his misery and shoot him. From this, I thought Arnold was an awful, dog killing, mean man, but I soon learned he was much better than this. He says ¨my mother and father are the twin suns around which I orbit and my world would EXPLODE without them.¨ This shows how much Junior loves his parents and how important they are to him.

¨But he loved me so much. He hugged me even closer...´You're so brave. You´re a warrior´ It was the best thing he could have said.... I hoped he´d drive right home and not stop in a bar and spend whatever money he had left. I hoped he´d remember to come back and pick me up after school.¨ This is a quote from page 35 when Junior is going to his first day of school at Reardon. This part of the book shows how much Junior loves his dad and vice versa. It also shows how their relationship is double-sided. Not only does Arnold look over and take care of Junior, but Junior does the same for his dad. He hopes that his dad will save his money rather than wasting it all at a bar like he usually does and that his dad will be sober enough to remember to pick him up after school. At the same time, Arnold hopes that Junior will have a great experience at
