Shunyata
one Muhayana doctrine asserts all reality is shunyana. "emptiness". Buddhist view that everything is always shifting, changing, taking new form.
bodhisattva
"enlightened being" a person of deep compassion, "bodhisattva's vow" to be born again until ALL are enlightened
Branches of Buddhism
Theravada (conservative, reaching nirvana through detachment), Mahayana (compassion, nirvana is possible for everyone), Vayrayana ("Tibet", chanting, body and all it's energy can be used to achieve nirvana).
Early Development of Buddhism
king named Ashoka who saw the bloody fields after war and though of nonviolence, decided to spread Buddhism in all of India.

Three Marks of Buddhism Reality
1) change- "anichcha" look at life how it really is, constantly changing, nothing we experience in life ever remains the same.
2)No permanent identity-"anatta"each person and thing is not only constantly changing but is made up of parts that are also constantly changing. 3) Suffering-"dukka"
