The exploration of the unknown; the gathering of data.
Research
Measurements that reflect what you are trying to assess and are not affected by anything else.
Reliability
The variation of a number around its true mean due to uncontrolled, essentially random influences. Also called error variance.
Measurement Error
A temporary psychological event, such as an emotion, thought, or perception.
State
A relatively stable and long-lasting attribute of personality.

Aggregation
Random erroes tend to cancel one another out. So the more error-filled your measurements are, the more measurements you need. The "truth" will be in there someplace; near the average.
Spearman-Brown Formula in Psychometrics
The degree to which a measurement actually reflects what one hopes or thinks it does.
Validity
Something that cannot be directectly seen or touched, but which affects and helps to explain many different things that are visible.
Constructs
The process of testing the theory behind a construct such as intelligence or sociability. Ex: Seeing how popular someone really is by asking and observing # of parties and phone calls one gets.
Construct Validation
the degree to which a measurement can be found under diverse circumstances, such as time, participant population and so on. Includes both reliability and validity.
