PERSONALITY
Psychologists define personality as the reasonably stable patterns of emotions, motives, and behavior that distinguish on person from another. (Rathus, 2014) There are some theory perspectives on personality that give pause to the depth of each personality type. For instance, there are several theories of the psychodynamic perspective. This is also known as psychoanalytic theory.
According to the work of Sigmund Freud, the psychodynamic perspective emphasizes unconscious psychological processes (for example, wishes and fears of which we’re not fully aware), and contends that childhood experiences are crucial in shaping adult personality. I am always striving for perfection. I just have to get that ‘A’. I’m very outgoing and love leading the pack. I tend to be a little bossy, very talkative, and overbearing at times but I have been this way all my life. To me, failure is not an option. According to Eysenck’s chart of personality dimensions has 4 sections. Melancholic, Choleric, Phlegmatic, and Sanguine. Each section gives pause to personality type traits. Introverted (solitary and shy), emotionally Unstable (known as neuroticism or rapid mood swings and impulsive), Extroverted (outgoing and socially confident) and emotionally Stable (ability to cope). (McLeod, 2014) I am an extrovert and always have been. I believe I clearly fall into being Sanguine temperament. I am enthusiastic, active, outgoing, sociable, talkative, respective, easygoing, lively, carefree and a leader and all of these traits were either nurtured (encouraged by my family and friends) or came naturally. While I have learned that I have many of these traits, I believe there is much more depth to people and their personality. I can be both objective and subjective. For example, at work I am very objective and am able to help guide my students to view different perspectives and solve problems that may be interfering with their ability to learn the objectives required for my course. I do have compassion and the ability to empathize with each individual student and their unique situations. On the other hand, my personal life seems to be more subjective and has a plethora of emotional undertones. I find my feelings get in the way of my judgement at
