The type of validity used for this test was construct validity. Construct validity is a test based on some kind of underlining psychological construct or idea.
How would we assess that for this scale? For this scale we were using 10 items to measure whether or not some had low or high self-esteem. Some of the items on the test measured high self-esteem, while some of the items were related to low self-esteem. We could propose that people with depression have lower levels of self-esteem than people with high self-esteem.
After the participants were to take this test, we could evaluate the scores and see if our lower scores correlate with depression. We would also look at our high scores to ensure that they are not correlated with depression. If the correlation is high between low scores and depression etc. and the correlation is low between higher scores and depression then the items we chose for our test were on track with measuring
