Lord Baltimore
-Received charter to colonize what is now Delaware in 1632.
-A short while after he received the charter he died and his son ,also named Lord Baltimore.
Act of Toleration
-Issued in 1649 by Lord Baltimore to unite and bring peace between the Catholics and Protestants living in Delaware.
French Huguenots
-Members of the Protestant Reformed Church who settled in the Carolina's.
Scotch-Irish
-Militant Protestants moved into Northern Ireland by the British to gain control over the Catholic's in Ireland.
-Moved to Carolinas and continued to migrate south through the Appalachian Mountains.
Plantation Society
-Society in the South which consisted of completely self-sucffiant plantations.
-They would use the money acquired from the sale of tobacco to buy goods from England and the North.
Country Squires
-Taken from the British model, was established in the South to create unity for the large plantations.
-System worked well in England but due to the large size of the plantations during this period.
Indentured Servitude
-Came from Apprenticeship- worked for farmers for 5 years in exchange for passage to the colonies. Indentured Servants would live with the family that paid for their voyage.
-Unlike Apprentices' Servants would not be taught a trade, but would receive freedom dues.
-Both Men and Woman
Apprenticeship
-would work with a tradesman (blacksmith etc.) for around 5 years to learn their trade.
-Would live with the family of the person that he worked for.
Freedom Dues
-Given as payment to Indentured Servants when they finished working for their 'master'.
-Would usually be clothing, or farming equipment, or sometimes money.
