what is the role of the rubrospinal tract?

gross limb movements in the hand

what is the role of the vestibulospinal tract?

control of balance and posture by innervating "antigravity muscles"

-medial VST = head and neck movements

-lateral VST = body movements

what is the role of the reticulospinal tract?

-automatic posture control (ie anticipatory postural adjustments) and gait control (hosts the mesencephalic locomotor region MLR that controls gait CPGs)

what does the tectospinal tract do?

connects head, neck and eye movements in response to visual stimulus (visually guided head movements)

what tract is uncrossed in the extrapyramidal system?

-the lateral vestibulospinal tract (body posture movements)

-possibly also the reticular formation (?) (anticipatory postural adjustments)

what tract is in the lateral part of the spinal cord (all others in the medial part)

the rubrospinal tract

where is the nucleus for the tectospinal tract?

the superior colliculus in the midbrain

where is the nucleus for the reticulospinal tract?

the reticular formation

-in the medial pons and medulla

where is the nucleus for the vestibulospinal tract?

the vestibular nuclei

lateral in the medial pons

medial in the medial medulla

where is the nucleus for the rubrospinal tract?

the red nucleus (in the medial midbrain)
