What is an osteocyte and what can you find there |
Essentially it is a bone cell, both osteoclasts and osteoblasts can be found here. |
What happens in the bones when calcium is too high? |
A message is sent to the thyroid gland that releases calcitonin, which triggers osteoblasts which creates bone.
What happens in the bones when the calcium is too low? |
The parathyroid gland is notified and lets out the parathyroid hormone (PTH). This triggers osteoclasts which break down bone and release calcium. |
Where are osteoclasts and osteoblasts found? |
Periosteum on diaphysis |
Differentiate between thyroid and parathyroid |
Thyroid -- anterior to larynx Parathyroid -- posterior to larynx |
