Air Resistance

a force which tends to slow the movement of an object through a liquid or gas

Net Force

a force equal to the sum of all forces applied to an object

Inertia

the resistance of an object to any change in its motion or direction

Newton's First Law of Motion

an object at rest stays at rest, an object in motion stays in motion, both unless acted upon by an unbalanced net force

Newton's Third Law of Motion

describes action/reaction pairs: every action has an equal and opposite reaction

Momentum (WRITTEN OUT ON TEST)

the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity

Law of Conservation of Momentum

the total linear momentum of a closed system remains constant through time, regardless of other possible changes within the system

Centripetal Force

a force that acts on a body moving in a circular path and is directed toward the center around which the body is moving

Balanced Forces

two forces acting in opposite directions on an object, and equal in size

Conductor

a material in which electricity, heat, or sound can travel through easily

Insulator

a material that reduces or stops the flow of energy

Static Electricity

the increase of electric charge on the surface of objects

Static Discharge

excess charge that is neutralized by a flow of charges from or to the surroundings
