provides motor functions to the soft palate, pharynx, and larynx, carries sensory fibers from the inferior pharynx, larynx, thoracic and abdominal organs, taste bud fibers from the posterior tongue

(x) vegas nerve
provides motor innervation to the muscles of the soft palate and pharynx and to the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles
(XI) spinal accessory nerve
provides motor function to the muscles of the tongue and throat

(XII) hypoglossal nerve

supplies motor fibers to the pharyngeal muscles. it provides taste sensation to the posterior portion of the tongue and carries parasympathetic fibers to the salivary glands

(IX) Glossopharyngeal nerve

passes through the internal auditory meatus and provides the senses of hearing and balance
(VIII) Vestibulocochlear nerve
supplies motor activity to all muscles of facial expression, the sense of taste to the anterior two thirds of the tongue, and cutaneous sensation to the external ear, tongue, and palate. also parasympathetic stimulation to the salivary glands lacrimal gland and the glands of the nasal cavity and palate.

(VII) facial nerve
supplies the lateral rectus muscle of the eyeball (lateral movement)

(VI) abducens nerve
supplies sensation to the scalp, forehead, face, and lower jaw via three branches; the ophthalmic, maxillary, and mandibular division. also chewing (mastication)

(V) trigeminal nerve
innervates the superior oblique muscles of the eyeball, which allow for downward gaze

(IV) trochlear nerve

Innervates the muscles that cause motion of the eyeballs and upper lip. the oculomotor nerve also carries parasympathetic nerve fibers that cause constriction of the pupils .

(III) oculomotor nerve
provides the sense of vision

(II) optic nerve
Provides the sense of smell
