What causes croup?

85% of cases are caused by a virus, most commonly parainfluenza. Other viruses include influenza A virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus, adenovirus, and rubella virus (measles) as well as the atypical bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae
