What causes croup? |
85% of cases are caused by a virus, most commonly parainfluenza. Other viruses include influenza A virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus, adenovirus, and rubella virus (measles) as well as the atypical bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae |

What are the basics of treating croup? |
Most children require no treatment. Best treatment for symptoms is glucocorticoids, either injected or oral (dexamethasone or nebulized budesonide), have been shown to improve symptoms within 6 hours |

Tracheobronchial cartilages are flaccid and tend to collapse during the expiratory cycle, causing stridor |
