What does pulling the engine fire handle do? (7) |
Closes fuel SOV Closes hydraulic SOV Closes bleed air SOV Trips associated generator Arms both fire extinguishers Depressurizes the associated engine driven hydraulic pump Removes power to reverser isolation valve |
|
What does pulling the APU fire switch do? (6) |
Closes APU fuel SOV Closes APU bleed air SOV Closes APU air inlet door Trips APU generator Shuts down APU Arms APU fire extinguisher bottle |
|
What does ARMING the cargo fire ARM switches do? (8) |
Arms all cargo bottles (lwr/aft switches only)
Arms selected compartment extinguisher valve (lwr/aft switches only)
Turns off both recirculation fans
Turns off lavatory/galley fans
Shuts down cargo heat
Commands packs to provide air to cockpit and SUPRNMRY area only
Puts equipment cooling system into override mode (lwr/aft switches only)
Turns off NGS |
|
What does pushing the DEPR/DISCH switch do after the main deck was armed? |
Iniates a cabin altitude of 23,000' when aircraft is at 25,000' to starve fire |
|
What does pushing the DEPR/DISCH switch do after a cargo zone was armed? |
Discharges the fire extinguisher bottles into the selected compartment. 2 initially and then 3 over time |
|
What sections of the airplane have fire detection AND extinguishing? (4) |
APU Cargo compartments Engines Lavatories |
|
How many fire extinguisher bottles for the engines? |
2 |
|
How is a fire or overheat detected in the engine? |
The system has two loops which are required to detect a fire or overheat condition. If there is a fault in one of the loops, the remaining loop can detect the condition and provide appropriate fire warning or overheat caution. |
|
If both loops in the engine have a fault, is there an indication to the crew and is fire detection provided? |
An EICAS message will tell the crew of the fault. No fire or overheat detection is provided |
|
What happens when an APU fire is detected in attended mode? |
APU will automatically shutdown |
|
How is a fire detected in the APU? |
The system has two loops which are required to detect a fire condition. If there is a fault in one of the loops, the remaining loop can detect the condition and provide appropriate fire warning. |
|
How many APU fire bottles are there? |
1 |
|
If a fire is detected on the ground in unattended mode what will the APU do? |
If a fire is detected on the ground with both engines off (unattended mode) by either loop the APU will shutdown AND extinguishing bottle will discharge |
|
What has fire detection ONLY? |
Main landing gear wheel well. It has a dual loop system |
|
What sections of the cargo area have smoke detection? |
All |
|
How does a fire warning occur in the cargo zones? |
If smoke is detected in ANY zones fire warning is triggered. The EICAS will display AFT, FWD or MAIN to identify the area |
|
How many fire extinguisher bottles are there for the lower cargo compartment? |
5 |
|
On the ground if the CARGO FIRE DEPR/DISCH switch is pushed what happens? |
2 bottles discharge immediately and after a time delay the third bottle will discharge |
|
Pushing the MAIN DECK CARGO FIRE ARM switch does what? Then pushing the CARGO DEPR/DISCH switch will do....? |
One pack to OFF and the other pack to low flow Initiates a controlled depressurization to a cabin altitude of 23,000' with airplane Altitude at 25,000'. |
|
Is there any fire detection in the crew rest? |
Smoke detectors, an aural alert will sound in the crew rest and an EICAS message will indicate |
|
Fire protection in the lavatory? |
Yes, a smoke detector that will sound an aural alert to both lavatory and SUPRNMRY area. An EICAS caution message will generate. There is an automatic fire extinguisher in the waste container cabinet. There is no flight deck indication if the bottle is being extinguished |
|
How is the system tested? |
Fire and overheat testing is automatic. The system will produce an EICAS message if a complete system failure occurs. No EICAS message for single loop operation. |
|
What is the definition of APU attended mode? |
Aircraft In flight Aircraft on ground with atleast 1 engine operating |
|
What powers the fire bottles for the APU, Engine and lower cargo deck? |
Hot battery bus |
|
Pressing the MAIN DECK CARGO FIRE ARM switch does what? |
Configures 1 pack off and other to a low flow mode |
