Each exit stairway must be within 200 feet of any point (250 feet in a sprinklered building residential , 300 business)

Min exit passage width

44 inches

2hr exit stair required

4 stories +

Type I and II

Stair enclosure pressurized when

Building is 75ft or taller

Automatically with activation of fire alarm

Class ABCD fires

A combustible materials

B flammable liquids

C electrical

D combustible metals

Halon extinguishers

For class b and c fires they remove oxygen

Ionization detection

Detect fire and smoke on early stages

Photolectric detector

The photoelectric detector reacts to visible smoke in the air that blocks a beam of light

Dry standpipe system

Outlet 2.5 in at every floor

Building 75 ft high required stand pipes at every staircase

Ball drip

Drain valve at the bottom of the dry standpipe

Wet standpipe

Required at buildings higher than 4 floors. every point of every floor is within 30 feet of the end of a 100-foot hose attached to an outlet.

35 gpm at 25 psi minimum for at least 30 minutes.

Combined standpipe

Standpipe for sprinklers and stand pipe

Required in buildings 150 ft and higher

Where are sprinklers required

And cellars and in retail sales areas over 12,000 square feet per floor or over 24,000 square feet gross; and in all places of assembly over 12,000 square feet in area.

Pre-action system

The preaction system is a variation of the dry system that requires that both the sprinkler head be activated and an independent fire sensing device triggered. To prevent unnecessary damage

deluge system

generally reserved for areas of high fire hazard. In the deluge system all of the sprinkler heads are wide open at all times, but the pipe system is empty of water. Release of the water is actuated by a heat or fire detection system installed in the area to be protected, which activates a valve, flooding the system with water.

Fact

All sprinkler systems must also have a siamese connection outside the building to permit the fire department to augment the overall flow.

Ordinary hazard group 1 2 and 3

Group 1, for example, includes automobile garages and laundries. Group 2 includes large stack room areas of libraries and printing and publish- ing plants. Group 3 includes paper processing plants and tire manufacturing plants.

Extra hazard

aircraft hangars and explosives handling areas.

Flashover

all the materials reach combustion temperature at once.
