How many recirculation fans are there?

2

What can cause the equipment cooling switch illuminate OVRD? (4)

Both equipment cooling supply fans have failed OR

Smoke is detected in the equipment cooling system OR

Equipment cooling switch is off OR

Cargo fire FWD switch is armed

What does A/C reset switch do?

Reset a fault OR

Reset a pack OR

Reset a fan

Can the cockpit temperature be controlled manually and if so how?

Yes, the FLT DECK TEMP switch has a manual position at the 6 o'clock position. It is spring loaded. In MAN temperature can be cooled by moving dial to C or W

With the M/D FLOW switch selected to HIGH what is happening?

All operating packs are configured to high flow

How much air exits the FWD and AFT outflow valve in the AUTO position?

20% FWD

80% AFT

The LDG ALT selector is pushed in, where does the pressurisation system gets it landing elevation from?

Automatically from FMC

What 2 indications are there to show the outflow valves are operating in the manual mode?

Amber MAN on the switch light AND

"M" displayed in amber on the EICAS display next the affected outflow valve

How many PACK controllers are there?

2

What will cause a pack to shutdown automatically?

Overheat detected

Pack fault

If one pack is in standby cooling mode and one is operating normally the pack in standby cooling mode will shut down when?

The pack in standby cooling mode will shut down at lower altitudes and higher OAT. The pack will restart automatically when altitude and OAT are suitable for standby cooling.

What pack services the FD and SUPRNMRY area?

Left

What does the ALTN VENT do?

The Alternate Ventilation system provides airflow to cockpit and SUPRNMRY cabin when packs are inoperative. If airplane is not pressurised and ALTN VENT is on, air is drawn from AFT outflow valve.

When airplane is pressurized and ALTN VENT switch is on, there is no airflow.

What is trim air?

Trim air is hot engine engine bleed air introduced through trim air valves in the conditioned air supply ducts

Is manual temperature control available for the SUPRNMRY cabin?

No

How is temperature controlled in the crew rest area?

Manually by heater controls in the compartment

In flight with the M/D FLOW switch to NORM what happens with the recirculation fans?

Left fan is shut-off during normal flow operations

What area's of the aircraft is equipment cooling supplied?

Electrical and electronic equipment on the flight deck AND

Forward E & E compartment equipment racks

Warm exhaust air from the forward E&E bay goes where?

It gets exhausted through FWD outflow valve or sent to the lower cargo deck compartment if more heat is required

If EQUIP COOLING is displayed on the EICAS on the ground what else will occur?

Ground crew call horn will indicate the forward equipment cooling system is inoperative

How is air sent to cool the equipment bay and flight deck electronics?

2 fans provide conditioned air from the forward pack to the E & E bay.

What is the maximum cabin altitude in cruise mode?

8000'

With a sudden loss of cabin pressurisation what will the outflow valves do?

The outflow valves will automatically close.

Engine bleed air has two stages of power. What are they and what determines what stage is used when?

Low stage: used during high power operations

High stage: supplied when aircraft is on descent and other low power operations

What altitude is APU bleed air available to?

22,000'

How many isolation valves are there and what is there normal position?

3, generally the left and right are open and the center valve is open for APU operations on the ground to supply the packs or engine starting

Is there duct leak and overheat protection?

Yes, automatic.

Can zone temperatures be maintained with the loss of trim air?

Yes, cabin temperature controllers attempt to maintain all zones at average selected temperature

When will the PACK switch illuminate OFF in amber?

Switch position

OR

Internal faults

OR

Pack overheat

If one pack is inoperative and the other in standby cooling, will the standby cooling pack shutdown at lower altitudes and higher temperatures?

No

If both packs are operating in standby cooling mode will they shut down at lower altitudes and higher temperatures?

No, both will operate continuosly

What modes do the packs have?

Normal (high, normal flow)

Standby cooling - used for internal pack faults (automatic)
