If a coach has a main air leak that can’t be isolated using a local isolating cock in that coach, what system can be used to bypass the leak and which isolating cocks will need to be operated during the process.

Rescue pipe system, provided the leak is not in first or last coach, mrpic’s isolated at each end of coach, 4 in total. If leak on coach 2 or 3, isolate the CIC, close the RPIC’s at both ends

If preparing a train and come across a fault, who is this reported to

Fleet at three bridges

What will happen if main reservoir pressure falls to low on the train

Emergency brak will apply and lose line light and both compressors will try to run to get power back up

What piece of equipment would you check is still running if the main air was low and how would you do this on hmi

HMI, Tap the brake and air systems tab, show details, select coach and check compressor icon has a line under

What 4 things do you need to check before coupling up to another 717

1. Check slow speeed icon is shown at top of HMI

2. Carry out visual check of couplers

3. Ensure no one is working in train and no not to be moved boards attatched.

4. If another driver is present ensure they have removed there key.

What piece of equipment would you check is still running if main air pressure dropped to low and how would you do it.

Main air compressors by checking under brake and air tab and looking for compressor symbol with line under

If a parking brake applies on the ncl, how is this dealt with?

Driver will be unable to access the parking brake release mechanism so train will be allowed to move under its own power or assisted. Passengers de trained at earliest opportunity and max speed if 5mph when pulling/ driving train and at each station a cool down period is required before further movement.

Engage siding mode and set max speed to 5mph

If you are assisting a 717 on the ncl due to a train failure, what must be done with the mode switch in the cab you are driving the combined train from and why.

The mode switch must be turned away from the auto position to the mode the train is currently operating in DC.

Once at Drayton park once starting signal has cleared and you have proceeded up the bank towards FP you must be sure that the rear pan is under the OLE before changing over manually from dc to ac.

Once air brakes have been isolated on a unit, what actions must be carried out in the cab prior to moving and what is the most important thing you must do prior to restarting your train.

You will now setup degraded mode. Update the train data on the DMI by informing of isolation on bogie or coaches so the train can adjust the braking when in Etcs mode. inform fleet control when complete. Contact signaller prior to re starting the train and proceed as instructed.

What restrictions apply to the following brake isolations 1 in 6 ratio and 2 in 6 ratio

1 in 6 continue in passenger service

2 in 6 assistance or de train passengers at next suitable location

You are coupling/in coupling two units on a dead end platform. Which unit would be your first choice to use and if you did have to use the other unit what must you check first.

Use the unit furthest away from the buffer stops. If using one closest ensure there is enough clearance between buffer stops

What 4 things need to be checked prior to coupling up to another 717

1. Check slow speed icon is displayed at top of HMI

2. Carry out visual check of couplers making sure nothing is stuck inside etc

3. Ensure train to be coupled upto is secure, that no one is on board and that no not to be moved boards are present.

4. Confirm that the other driver if present has removed there key or no key has been left in cab.

What are the two ways of stopping the the contact box from moving forward in order to couple up mechanically

Engage hauling mode or isolate the EHIC electrical head isolating cock

If you need to get in between two units to sort out a coupling problem what precautions should you take.

Engage emergency brake, secure cab and get line block if needed.

How many times would you keep trying to reset a units VCB or HSCB before stopping to conduct further investigation with ROC and why

Never reset more than 3 times without investigating as the unit is trying to tell you there is a problem. Severe damage to the main transformer or traction equipment may occur if you continue to reset.

What 4 things would you immediately do if you received an emergency group call over GSMR

Stop train and press st button, set DRA, listen to call, do not move until authorised or you are sure your train is not affected by the call.

No signal is gained when setting up the GSMR. What action would you take and what can the signaller authorise you to do.

Attempt to register the radio a second time ensuring you are entering correct registration code. Contact the signaller using normal point to point call and make sure you are speaking to correct signaller for area. If there is a problem in the area, signaller will authorise you to register using a wildcard 99x to overcome the problem. Use your headcode along with wildcard to register the radio.

How would you communicate with someone that has operated a Passenger alarm unit(PAU) or a call for aidCFA

PAU - push pass comm overide located next to DSD foot pedal. flashing answer led on PIS panel. Press answer button on PIS panel to initiate speech call to pau. Lift PA handset and press the button in to talk and release to listen.

CFA- 5 alert beeps in cab, press answer button on PIS panel to initiate speech call. Lift PA handset and press button in to talk and release to listen.

On what two occasions must you not over ride the PAU ( pass comm)

On leaving a station or you believe the train to be in imminent danger

For how long would you over ride a pass comm and what will you be doing whilst over riding

60 seconds and you will be trying to contact person who pulled it.

If a VCB or HSCB opens in a train what three things can you do to rectify even when on move

Reset VCB or HSCB by moving power supply switch to on position

Check OLE for signs of damage, lower pan and then raise again.

Coast to suitable location to fault find and inform fleet control.
