Growth is an increase in a measurable quantity such as height or weight.

What does Development mean?

Development is the complex changes in a persons skills and capabilities.

What is a Milestone?

A milestone is the development of skills and abilities such as fine and gross motor skills, thinking and language skills. These can develop alongside social roles and expectations that are associated with different life stages. E.G. something significant a person achieved such as walking.

What are the principles of Growth?

- Growth is an increase in quantity.


- Differs across genders and body parts.


- Ones growth could be rapid whilst someone else’s could be slow.

What are the principles of Development?

- Happens from head to toe, being able to control their body.


- From inside to the outside, control movements in their body and controlling smaller muscles.


- In the same sequence but at different rates for each person.

What does Holistically mean?

Areas of development that may influence each other.

What are Gross Motor Skills?

Gross Motor Skills are the movements that use larger muscles in the body. E.G walking, Running and Jumping.

What are Fine Motor Skills?

Fine Motor Skills are the movements of smaller muscles in the hands, fingers and toes. E.G. picking things up with their fingers and thumb and wiggling their toes.

What are Primary Sexual Characteristics? What are they for males and females?

Primary sexual characteristics are the changes and development of the reproductive System, changes you can not physically see. E.G.


Female:


- Uterus enlarges


- Vagina lengthens


- Ovaries begin to release eggs


- Menstrual cycle begins


Male:


- Penis and Tested enlarge


- Spontaneous erections


- Testicles begin to produce sperm.

What are Secondary Sexual Characteristics? What are they for male and females?

Outward signs of development. E.G. changes you can see.


Female:


- Breasts develop


- Area around the nipple swells and darkens


- Hair growth in armpits and pubic area


- Redistribution of body fat causing hips to widen.


Male:


- Changed in larynx causing voice to deepen (Adams apple)


- Hair growth in armpits, pubic area and more facial hair


- Redistribution of body fat and muscle.

What is Nature?

Nature is the coding genes in each cell in humans, determined the different traits that we have. More dominantly on the physical sides such as eye colour, hair colour, ear size and height.

What does Nurture mean?

Nurture means that our experiences are the reason for how we act, not genetics nor dna.

Predictable life events are events we expect to happen. Such as -
