Describe what is thought to be the primary factor limiting fat oxidation during high-intensity exercise when carbohydrate metabolism is high and explain why this makes sense metabolically. (4 pt)

Increase acettl-carnitine and low free catnitine?

why might we expect that adaptation to a high-fat diet could improve performance for ultra-endurance events? (3 pt)

During an endurance event, your %VO2 max will most lickely be closer to 60 percent, which is where fat utilization is most prominant. Having a high fat diet will increase the rate of fat oxidation, which will then have your body already focusing on oxidizing fats for your event.

Explain why adaptation to a ketogenic diet would logically be expected to impair high-intensity exercise performance. (4 pt

Answer:Fat oxidation declines when you start to get to an intensity that is above 80% VO2 max. This would require you to use glycogen for your main source of fuel. Which on a low carb (no carb) diet, would result in low glycogen stores and makign it so you couldnt supply the fuel needs to keep up with such a high intensity.

Explain why 40 g of protein intake following a full coarse of circuit resistance training may optimize the anabolic response over that of what has traditional though to be the maximally effective dose. Be sure to contrast the two study designs the resulting in these different conclusions. (4 pt)

Normally, it was thought that 20 grams was optimal, but these studies were mainly done with cycling or bouts of exserize that only effected one portion of the body. The study that found that 40 grams was better was because they did a full body exersize. By doing this, they had more overall mass of muscle that was being broken down and needed more replenishment. So more areas that needed to recover meant more protein intake.

Describe the strategy of “train high, sleep low, train low" (relative to carbohydrates) and explain how and why this might improve performance. (6 pt)

This is about carbohydrate availability. Training with high glycogen stores and high intensity in the evening and low glycogen stores in the morning at low intensity.

Describe the 3 physiological factors that result in progressive increases in glucose uptake into contracting skeletal muscle (not insulin). (6 pt)

Answer:If the availibity of glucose is in the blood, this will increase uptake because there is more of it there to uptake. Secondly, increaseing power will increase uptake because there willl be more of a demand for fuel and uptake will increase to match this need. lastly, low glycogen stores will increase uptake to replenish these store or to continue feuling the body in still exersizing.
