What is Data? What is Data used for?
Facts or numerical statistics that are gathered for reference or analysis.
What is a Dependent Variable?
The thing in an experiment that changes depending on the independent
variable or what is done in the experiment.
What is an Experiment?
A scientific procedure done to make a discovery, demonstrate a known
fact, or test a hypothesis.
What are Graphics? What are two examples?
Written creations that help to organize data.
What is an Independent Variable?
The thing that you usually change or manipulate in an experiment.
What is an Inference? What is it based on?
A guess that is based entirely on your observations and experience.
What is an Observation? What do you gain with Observations?
Using as many of your five senses and experience to gain information
about the world around you.
What is Balance?
A condition where the number of atoms in the reactants are equal to the
number of atoms in the products of a chemical reaction.
What is Celsius?
A metric system of measuring temperature. 0 = freezing, 100 = boiling, 32
= body temperature.
What is a Graduated cylinder?
A measuring device that can be described as a tall, graduated
“measuring cup”. Graduated means there are volume lines at specific
intervals on the device.
What is a Gram?
A unit of metric measure of mass.
What is a Kilo? How many meters is a kilometer?
A metric prefix that stands for 1000. A kilometer is 1000 meters.
What is a Liter?
The metric measurement for volumes of substances.
What is a Mass?
The amount of matter in an object.
What is a Meter?
A metric standard for measuring distance.
What is a Milli?
A metric prefix that stands for .001. For instance, a milimeter is 1000th of a
meter or each line on the meter stick is a milimeter (1000 mm = 1 m).
What is Tempature?
Hot and Cold. A measure of the average energy of motion of the
particles of a substance.
What is Volume?
The amount of space that matter takes up.
What is Water displacement?
The moving of water or parts of water from its original place or position.
What is Interpolation?
Inserting a value/number into a series based on estimation or calculation
of surrounding known values.
What is Extrapolation?
To apply findings (generally math related) to other situations with the
assumption that the math will hold consistent. (12 bats in my yard ate
2000 bugs. . . therefore 12 bats in Webster will eat about 2000 also.
