Document A- social hierarchy
japan and europe bith had a social order. on the hierarchy, the people with more status, power and wealth are at the top of the pyramid. usually the less status, power, and wealth a group has, the lower they are on the pyramid.
Japan and Europe both had social statuses. the people with the most power, status, and wealth were located at the top and the people with less power, status, and wealth were located towards the bottom. (feudal arrangments)
Document A- Social Hierarchy
samurais were warriors who owed loyalty and military service to daimyos for land or money. Knights were warriors who owed loyalty and military service to the lord for land. daimyos were feudal lords who often fought each other. lords received land from wealthier lords and owed military service
lords and daimyos were kind of like the people who watched over the knights and samurai. samurai and knights both warriors who owed military service to the lord for loand or money and the daimyos and knightswere sort of like the people who watcehd over them
Document B- social hierarchy
loyal towards the feudal lord in japan was hereditary. English noblleman knelt before his lord to pledge loyalty and military support. a samurai had to obey their daimyo like a knight needed to obey their lord.
samurai and knights were both loyal towards their lords and daimyos. knights would kneel before their lord and pledge their loyalty and service. A samurai always considered that his life was not only his but belonged completely to his daimyo.
Document C- Military and Training
Samurai training began in childhood. Knight training began at the age of 4 or 5. Samurai training included spiritual discipline and the art of fencing with bamboo sticks. Knight training included religious instruction and how to "fight" with wooden swords.
Both warriors started off training at a young age. They both learned some kind of mental instruction as well as some kind of deffensive instruction.
Document D- Military and Training
Samurai armor was a full body suit except for their right arm so that it was easier to draw their bow. Knights had a complete body armor with nothing left uncovered.
Samurai and Knights both had full body armor that was used for protetcion when they went in for battle. Knights just had a little more protection than samurai, considering that samurai had one arm left uncovered.
Document E- Honor and Death
Both Japanese samurai and European knights were expected to abide by the code of honor. In Japan the code came to be called bushido. In Europe the code came to be called the code of chivalry. Those who transgress against these moral principles, the samurai punishes him and thus upholds proper moral principles in the land. The knights solemnly promise to do no wicked deed and to be loyal to the king.
Both samurai and knights had a code of law. Both warriors had to be loyal to their codes and had the responsibility to be loyal to his lord and to live an honorable life.
Document F- Honor and Death
Japanese samurai and European knights had different views of death. The samurai death poem stated that one day you are born and the next you die. The knight death poem stated that Roland feels that the end of his life has come and he is begging for mercy and forgivness of his sins.
Both samurai and knights had death poems. Even though the poems were very different they both basically stated that death is a part of life. The samurai never questioned his after life and the knight begged for forgiveness adn mercy of his sins.
