What is hydraulic action?

The sheer weight and impact of water against the coastline particularly during a storm will erode the coast . The waves compress air into the cracks of the rocks forcing them apart weakening the rock.

What is abrasion?

Breaking waves throw sand and pebbles(or boulders) against the coast during storms.

What is attrition?

The rocks and pebbles carried by the waves rub together and break down into smaller pieces .

What is solution?(erosion)

Chemical action by sea water on some rocks especially limestone

What is traction?

Large boulders roll along the river bed.

What is saltation?

Smaller pebbles are bounced along the river bed picked up and then dropped as the flow of the river changes.

What is suspension?

Finer sand and silt particles are carried along in the flow, giving the brown appearance.

What is solution?(tansportation)

Minerals from rocks such as limestone and chalk are dissolved in the water and carried along the flow although they cannot be seen.
