Additive Effect
The drug interaction that occurs when two drugs with similar action are administered. Additive effects can be desirable or undesirable.
Adverse Drug Reaction
An undesirable drug effect that ranges from a mild untoward effect to a severe toxic effect, including hypersensitivity reaction and anaphylaxis.
Antagonistic Effects
When two drugs that have opposite effects are administered together and each drug cancels the effect of the other.
Drug Incompatibility
A chemical or physical reaction that occurs among two or more drugs in vitro (e.g., the reaction occurs between two or more drugs within a syringe, IV bag, or other artificial environment outside of the body)
Drug Interaction
An altered or modified action or effect of a drug as a result of interaction with one or more other drugs.
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Drugs

Photosensitivity
A skin reaction caused by exposure to sunlight
Synergistic Effect:
When two or more drugs are given together and the clinical effect is substantially greater than the effects of the individual drugs.
