Latitude lines |
- imaginary Lines running horizontal around globe. -parallels, latitude line -each degree is 69miles -0 degree is the equated with 90 degrees north and south. |
Longitude lines |
Imaginary line is a Meridian running vertical around the globe. The prime meridian is at 0°. The degree of longitude runs 180° east and 180° west from the meridian. |
Geographic Coordinates |
Combining longitude and latitude measurements locate earths determined. Units of measurement for geographic coordinates are degrees minutes and seconds. The earth has 360° it is divided in 60 minutes |
Hemisphere |
Northern and southern hemisphere divided by equator zero latitude. Eastern and western hemisphere divided by pride meridian 0° longitude the international dateline 180° |
Equator |
0° latitude. Sun is directly overhead at noon. Equator divides the northern and western hemisphere. Western circumference 24,901 miles |
Prime meridian |
0° latitude. Greenwich observatory is located at the prime meridian. The time at 0° is called universal time. The 24 times zones extend east to west around the globe. International date line when at noon the primer meridian is at midnight. |
International date line |
Located at 180° longitude.regions to east of the international dateline are counted as one calendar to be earlier in the reaches to the west.although international dateline generally follows 180° it runs through several countries dividing those countries are not simple to different time zones but into two different calendar days. |
Tropic of cancer |
Tropic of Cancer a line of latitude located 23.3°. The sun is directly overhead Tropic of Cancer on summer in the northern hemisphere June 20-21 |
Tropic of Capricorn |
The line of latitude located 23.3 so strung is directly overhead tropic of the summer southern hemisphere December 20-21 |
Arctic Circle |
A line of latitude located at 66.3° north declined the northern frigid zone of the earth |
Antarctic Circle |
Alina of latitude located 66.3° south Delineating the south frigid zone of earth |
Globe |
The most accurate map of the earth duplicating it's spherical shape and relative size |
Time zones |
The earth completes one rotation every 24 hours. Each rotation makes a circle which is 360°. 360° divided by 24 equals 15° per hour. You add one hour for each 50° going east. You subtract one hour for each 50° west.when you reach the international dateline the east is 12 hours ahead the west is 12 hours behind so there is a difference of 24 hours or one day. |
Scale |
Scale on a map allows a mapmaker to put a great deal of information such as small into actual area size. The scale on a map that a small distance on a map represents a much larger distance on the surface. |
Statement scale |
The statement scale is the type that is listed as a statement. To find a distance on the ground you measure the distance between two points on the map in centimeters. Then calculate the actual distance in kilometers. Might show that 1 cm on the map covers 50 km on earth. |
Statement scale |
The statement scale is the type that is listed as a statement. To find a distance on the ground you measure the distance between two points on the map in centimeters. Then calculate the actual distance in kilometers. Might show that 1 cm on the map covers 50 km on earth. |
Line scale |
Alliant scale is written so that with the ruler you can measure the distance between two space quite easily. You can use a piece of paper to determine the distance. |
Grid system |
Located cities and towns on a map. The line running east to west are called latitude. The line running north to south or called longitude. Latitude plus longitude equal coordinates. Latitude written first and the longitude last. |
How to find the coordinate |
Starting point equator 0° latitude. Follow north or south. Determine the degree and hemisphere and write it down.step to finding a longitude. Prime radian zero longitude. Follow east or west. Determine the degree and have a sphere and write it down. |
Scale |
The scale on a map allows the map maker to put a great deal of information on a sheet of paper that is much smaller than the actual area being looked on at about. The scale on a map means that a small distance on the map represents a much larger distance on the earth surface. |
Statement scale |
The statement scale is a type that is listed as a statement. To find the distance on the ground you measure the distance between two points on the map in centimeters calculate the actual distance in kilometers. That Miche oh that 1 cm equals 50 cooperators. This means that every centimeter on the map covers 50 Kalab letters on the earths surface |
Line scale |
The line scale is written so that with a ruler you could measure the distance between two places quite easily. You can use a piece of paper to determine the distance. |
Representative fraction ( RF Scale) |
The representative fraction uses the same units for both map and or surface. Converting our Avenue scale is 1 km equals 100,000 cm. Move decibel five places to the left. |
