Berne Convention

Is an international treaty that requires countries to recognize the other countries copyrights.

Patents

Are the very idea of a copyrighted work. Applies to an invention and patent sets an amount of exclusive rights granted by an sovereign state to the inventor or assignee for a limited periods of time in exchange for detailed public disclosure of an invention.

Trademarks

Key function is to exclusively identify commercial source or origin of products or services. Serves to identify a particular business as the source of goods or services known as "trademark use".

Commercial Software

Software that is developed with the intent to sell that software as a profit. Companies would keep source codes secret which means users that use product cannot change software except for configurations alone.

Similar to Comm. software except for copyright and legal perspective. Typically downloadable software based on honor system. Basically stating that you will give the payment to author later on if you like it. Trial software.

Freeware

Similar to shareware but software is always FREE and has no cost involved. Stripped down version of a complete commercial version that the application provider/vendor releases. A lot less features.
