-Time of great upheval, US scared of "reds" (communists)

-American Liberty League=Rebulplicans, too much fed gov., in ND, wanted to promote business
-Father Coughin=Priest on the radio, supporter turned opponent, largest radio audience in US, feld FDR's plans were benefitting rich ppl only, starts to become anti-semetic
-Huey Long=Popular governor, wanted to seize funds from the rich and give to poor, big community, funded school, more socialist, was assasinated
-Townsend=Felt senior citizens were being screwed, a doctor

-20th amendment=moved presidential inaguration to Jan.20th
-21st amendment=repealed prohibition in steps
-Glass-Steagall Act=Established FDIC, insurance for bank accounts up to 5,000 and made banks act catiously with ppls $ Reform
-Civilian Conservation Act=young men (18-25) worked to build roads, plant tress, and do other public work , employed 3 millions. Relief
-Agricultural Adjustment Act=raise crop prices by lowering production (hoping that reducing supply would increase demand), payed ppl to destroy crops (angered ppl) Recovery
-National Youth Administration=Provided jobs for young ppl (also conseling and recreation), students aid to high school and college, part-time jobs. Recovery
-Tennessee Valley Authority=harnessed water power to generate electricity and help prevent floods and make national parks. Reform.
What were the acts from the Second New Deal?
-Court Packing Bill (1937)=FDR annoyyed with challenges from Supreme Court, so he tried to make a retiring age of 70 (but failed)
-Wagner Act/NLRB=Reestablished NIRA provision of collective bargaining, protected workers rights to join a Union, and cracked down on businesses doing unjust things Reform.
-Works Progress Administration=Hopkins, created jobs quickly, spent $11 billion and emplyed a ton of ppl, built schools, hospitals, programs town squares ect., creates Federal Art program. Relief.
-Securities Exchange Commission=regulate banking and investment activities. Reform
-Social Securities Act=Old-age insurance for retirees (65+), unemployment compensation, and aid to families w/ dependent children and disabled. Reform.
