A single person who took control of the government against the wishes of the community.
What is a democracy?
A form of government that receives its power from the people.
What is a plebeian?
A common citizen of Ancient Rome from the working class (farmer or craftsman). The working class in Ancient Rome.
What are patricians?
A member of a wealthy, landowning family who claimed to be able to trace their roots back to the founding of Rome. They controlled the law because they were the only citizens allowed to be judges.
What was the Roman Senate?
An assembly of elected representatives who governed Rome.
What is an empire?
a nation or group of territories ruled by a single, powerful leader, or emperor. Example: Augustus or Constantine
