Active vs Passive Voice |
Active Voice = Subject, Verb, Object Eg; Tom opens the door Passive Voice = the object becomes the subject, the verb "to be" is used, and the original subject is now at the end of the sentence preceded by the word "by" Eg; The door is opened by Tom WHY 1. some time we don't know the subject who performed the action and therefore have to use it Eg; PASSIVE: My sweater was made in New York 2. Apparently it pulls focus to the object over the subject (used in the news alot) Eg; PASSIVE: 2 puppies were rescued from a burning house last night As you can see, who did the rescuing is not the focus in this sentence https://youtu.be/50AXQum90EE |
