What is the definition of equality.

Equality is about making sure people are treated fairly and given fair chances, suitable to their needs.

What is the definition of diversity.

Diversity is about valuing individual difference. Diversity aims to recognise, value and manage difference to enable all employees to contribute and realise their full potential.

What is the definition of harassment.

Unwanted conduct that violates people’s dignity or creates an intimating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment.

What is the definition of bullying.

There isn’t a statutory definition of bullying, but it can be where a person uses strength or power to coerce others by fear.

How do you explain the 4 types of discrimination?

Direct discrimination- when an employer treats an employee less favourable than someone else because of one of the 9 protected characteristics.


Indirect discrimination- it’s when a working condition or rule disadvantages one group of people more than another.


Discrimination by association- this is when an individual is discriminated against because of the actions or characteristics of another person, namely someone with whom they are associated.


Discrimination by perception- this is discrimination against someone because they are wrongly perceived to have a certain characteristic, and then are treated less favourably as a result.

What are the employees responsibilities under the HPC (harassment, complaints procedure)?

All employees have a responsibility to help ensure a working environment in which the dignity of employees is respected.


Reviewing and complying with the HCP.


Challenging inappropriate behaviour, making it clear they find the behaviour unacceptable. This may include reporting to a manager etc


Offering support and advice to the individual who perceived they are being harassed.


Consider your own behaviour and be self aware.
