inform patient abut potential temporary memory loss and confussion; Keep NPO after midnight for early morning procedure (6-8 hrs); Have pt. void; remove dentures, glasses, hairpins, hearing aids, contact lenses, jewelry; get signed concent; explain to pt a bite block will be inserted; insert IV and provide O2 by nasal cannula.

Take vital signs frequently; observe reaction of patient and stay with them for at least 12 hrs.; orient patient; assit them to get up; advise family to provide assistance and report problems.
