What are the 2 types of application software? |
Generic and specific |

What is generic software? |
It is that which can be used for a variety of uses, and is not designed for a particular type of application |

What are some examples of generic software? |
Word processing packages, spreadsheet packages, databases, presentation packages and graphics packages |

What are integrated packages? |
They are things such as Microsoft Works that have word processing, spreadsheets, etc. They have less features included but they are relatively cheap |

What are software suites? |
Something such as Microsoft Office that contain a bundle. They are cheaper than buying each package separately and you can import/export data between packages easily |

What is specific software? |
It is software that is designed to do one particular task such as payroll system, stock control, library and accounts |

What are the 2 different types of specific software? |
Off-the-shelf and bespoke |

What is off-the-shelf software? |
It can be bought to do a particular task, e.g. Sage Accounting is an off-the-shelf Accounts package |

What is bespoke software? |
It is software that is written specially for a client. It is useful if no suitable pre-written packages are available however it is expensive |
