Tokugawa Ieyasu became shogun of Japan in 1603. The Tokugawa shogunate ruled for more than 250 yrs.
Locke
Believed that people are naturally good and had the right to life, liberty, and property. Wrote the "Two Treasties of Gov." Said if the gov. violates its people's rights, they are obligated to overthrow it. The best gov. has limited power and accepted by all citizens.
George III.

"Father of Modern Egypt" Improved tax collection, reorganized land holding system, etc. Increased their world trade and built a well trained army. Conquered Arabia, Syria, and Sudan. Died in 1849
Peter the Great
Came to throne 1689 in Russia. In 1697 he travled all over Europe to study Western Tech. and tried to westernize Russia. Became autocratic to force people to change their ways of life. Revived serfdom and forced boyars to serve civilian or military jobs. 1700-1709 Fought Sweden to get land along the Black Sea and built St. Petersburg.
Richard Arkwright
British inventor that invented the waterframe that used water power to speed up spinning during the British Industrial Rev.
Cardinal Armand Richelieu
Chief Minister of Louis XIII of France from 1624-1642. Wanted to crush Huguenots and nobles since they didn't listen to the crown. Smashed Huguenots cities and outlawed their armies, but still allowed them to practice thier religion. Defeated the nobles' private armies.
Silesia
Hapsburg province seized by Frederick II of Prussia in 1740. Maria Theresa fought the War of Austrian Sucession to get it back but unable to.
The Wealth of Nations
Written by Adam Smith, said that a free market should be allowed to regulate business activity (invisble hand). Showed how economic growth was linked to supply and demand.
William and Mary
Mary was the Protestant daughter of James II of England. 1688 they were invited to rule by the Parliament. Came w/ the army in late 1688 and James II fled, which was called the Glorious Rev. since there was no bloodshed.
Zollverein
created 1830s by Prussia. It was an economic union that dismantled tariff barriers between German states.
Boers
Dutch, occupied the Cape Colony in South Africa. they resented the British anti-slavery laws. In the 1830s, they migrated on the "Great Trek" north and fough w/ the Zulus, the Boers won.
