Describe the course of blood through the right side of the heart, pulmonary circulation, left side of the heart, and systemic circulation.

Describe the course of blood from the digesive system through the hepatic portal system, the hepatic sinusoids, hepatic veins, inferior vena cava, to the right atrium.
1. Three gut sections drain into Hepatic Portal Vein
- Foregut - splenic vein
- Midgut - superior mesenteric vein
- Hindgut - inferior mesenteric vein

2. Portal = blood entering TWO capillary beds before returning to heart, first here is digestive system, and second will be the hepatic sinusoids in liver where there is detoxification of absorbed nutrients

3. After passing through hepatic sinusoids, blood drains through the hepatic vein to the IVC
Name the three main branches of the arch of the aorta.
1. Bracheocephalic Trunk (1st branch) splits into:
- R Common Carotid Artery
- R Subclavian Artery

2. Left Common Carotid Artery (2nd Branch)

3. Left Subclavian Artery (3rd Branch)
Name the veins that return blood to the right atrium.
1. Inferior Vena Cava (IVC)

2. Superior Vena Cava (SVC)

3. Coronary Sinus - formed from cardiac veins carrying venous blood from the cardiac muscle of the heart
List two functions of the lymphatic system.
1. Filter/Respond to antigens (immune surveillance)
- Includes production/maturation of lymphocytes and RBC destruction

2. Drain "leaked" interstitial fluid and interstitial proteins back to the venous system
Describe the main routes by which lymphatic fluid is returned to the venous system.
1. blind-ended lymphatic capillaries -> lymph vessels (w/ 1-way valves) -> lymph nodes -> thoracic ducts
~~ Lymph from lower body and upper L quadrant drained via Thoracic Duct into junction of Left
Internal Jugular Vein and Left Subclavian Vein
~~ R Upper quadrant drains via Right Lymphatic Duct

2. Lymph is generally propelled through lymphatic vessels following the path of vascular vessels
