Herpes
Uses the skin's epidermal layer for reproduction and growth. The verruca wart enters the skin through a lesion that has been exposed to contaminated fields, floors or clothing. Different forms include verruca plana (flat wart), verruca plantaris (plantar wart), and the condyloma acuminatum (veneral wart).
Plantar Warts (HPV)

Herpes Zoster
_________ contagiosa is a common skin disease, primarily observed in children, with the greatest number of cases occurring in late summer and early fall. It is caused by streptococci and spreads rapidly when athletes are in close contact with each other.
Impetigo
A ________, or boil, is a localized, pus-forming infection of staphylococcus bacteria that originates in a hair follicle.
furuncle
An inflammatory reaction of the hair follicles, usually around the face or neck or in the groin area.
Folliculitis
Strains of staphylococcus bacteria that have become resistant to some antibiotics. These strains are not only resistant to the antibiotic called methicilin, but also to many other types of antibiotics. MRSA
"Jock rash" or tinea (ringworm) of the groin is a fungal infection that appears as a bilateral and often symmetrical brownish or reddish lesion resembling the outline of a butterfly in the groin area.
Tinea Cruris

Tinea Pedis
Inflammation of the mucous membranes of the bronchial tubes. It occurs in both acute and chronic forms. In the athlete ____ ________ usually occurs as an infectious winter disease that follows a common cold or other viral infection of the upper respiratory region.
Acute Bronchitis
Also known as exercise-induced bronchial obstruction is a disease that occurs almost exclusively in asthmatic persons. Can be stimulated by exercise in some individuals and can be provoked in others, only on rare occasions, during moderate exercise. Loss of heat and water causes the greatest loss of airway reactivity.
Exercise Induced Asthma
An acute viral disease that affects mainly young adults and children. It has major significance to athletes because it can produce severe fatigue and raise the risk of SPLEEN rupture. The virus is carried in the throat and transmitted to another person through saliva.
Infectious Mononucleosis
A chronic hereditary anemia. The red blood cell with an abnormal sickle shape has less potential for transporting oxygen and is more fragile than normal cells.
Sickle Cell Anemia
A symptom manifested by a large number of underlying disorders. Some types of ________ involve a genetic predisposition and a low threshold to having seizures. In others, altered brain metabolism or a history of injury may be the cause.A recurrent disorder of cerebral function characterized by a sudden, brief attack of altered consciousness, motor activity, sensory phenomena, or inappropriate behavior.
Epilepsy
An inflammatin of the meninges, or membranes, that surround the spinal cord and brain that are caused by infection, usually from the meningococcus bacteria. Bacteria may enter the CNS through the nose or throat following infections of the ear, throat or respiratory tract.
Meningitis
