diagnosis by PCR testing of urine, vaginal swabs treatment by oral antibiotic (Azithromycin) |

What are the symptoms of gonorrhoea? |
-pain and thick, yellow discharge from infected areas -pain/burning on urination Men: inflammation of prostate & testes women: bleeding esp after sex, pelvic pain |

What is the diagnosis and treatment of gonorrhoea? |
diagnosis: swab, culture, microscopy. Can also be PCR. treatment: IM intecion of ceftriaxone in Aust. Overseas there are fully antibiotic strains. |

What is the primary stage of syphilis? |
Painless Chancres on infected areas, lasts 3-6 weeks, appears after 2-6 weeks incubation. |

What is the secondary stage of syphilis? |
stage indicates bacteria has moved into the bloodstream. Appears 4-10 weeks after Chancre, most infectious stage rash on palms, mucous/warts on infected areas, fever, malaise, joint pain, anorexia, alopecia |

What is latent syphilis? |
asymptomatic period of syplylis between secondary and teriary stages. |

What is the tertiary stage of syphilis? |
occurs 3-10 years after initial infection tumor-like lesions (gummas) in various tissues, locally destructive, causing verious symptoms depnding on location of gummas |

What is the diagnosis and treatment of syphilis? |
diagnosis: serum antibody tests treatment: IM penicillin. May be more complicated to treat in later stages |

What is the difference between type 1 herpes and type 2 herpes? |
type 1 is usually associated with coldsores and type 2 is usually associated with genital herpes. type 2 is generally more severe |

What are the symptoms of genital herpes? |
presence of lesions: blisters on infected area, which burst to form a painful ulcer. These will usually reappear throughout a person's life, at increasing intervals and decreasing intensity |

What is the diagnosis and treatment of herpes? |
usually diagnosed via physical examination or through PCR testing of a pap smear. no cure. antiviral treatment can supress and outbreak or lessen the severity or duration of an outbreak. |
