Captain John Smith

- Born in England; after events in his life set sail for Jamestown.


- Fought for the Dutch in Netherland's war.


-Help capture Venetian galley


-Served in Austrian army in battle against Turkey.


- Wounded in battle and taken as prisoner.


- Escaped and subsequent enslavement by killing his Turkish master and returned to England.


-Appointed a seat on the colony council and was later elected president of the council after exploration of the new land.
