3. Herzberg Motivation-Hygiene Theory - Need hygene factors, good conditions, personal life, relations, coffee, before motivation factors like achievement, recognition, growth
4. Expectancy Theory - expectation of reward to motivate people. If unfair will demotivate
5. McClelland's Achievement Theory - people need achievement, power and affiliation to be motivated.
What are the 5 stages of team development?
1. Forming - People are still trying to figure out their roles. Tend to work independently
2. Storming - Members form opinions, can lead to flare ups.
3. Norming - As the team learns more about other people on the team, they adjust work habits to help each other. Start trusting
4. Performing - Everyone knows capabilities, starts acting as a cohesive unit.
5. Adjourning - Team deals with closing down.
What are some common reasons conflicts happen?
1. Resources - are scarce. ex. Good conference room, team member, or each copy machine.
2. Priorities - one project or person is more important than another. If companies priorities aren't crystal clear, then conflict happens.
3. Schedules - decide who gets what, when.
Additional ones - Personalities, Costs and Technical opinions (experts disagree)
What are some ways to resolve a conflict?
1. Confronting, or problem solving - find a solution. Most effective
2. Compromise - each person gives up something. used after confronting
3. Collaborating - working with other people to make sure that their viewpoints are taken into account.
4. Smoothing - Play down the problem. Useful to calm people down and gain time.
5. Forcing - Putting foot down. One person wins and one loses.
6. Withdrawal - Walk away from arguments. Usually counterproductive.
