Toxic waste products and organ they’re excreated by

1) Urea - kidney (harms cells & tissues)

2) Carbon Dioxide - lungs

Urea formation and removal

- formed when digestion of protein results in excess of amino acids

- amino acids undergo deamination removing parts avec nitrogen and and waste products are ammonia (liver)

- ammonia converted to urea (less toxic), excreted as urine

Assimilation

- liver assimilates (move amino acids into cells) amino acids before converting into proteins

Ways body loses water

- sweat

- feces

- exhalation

- urine

What happens when high water consumption + minimal sweating

Urine is:

- produced in large volumes

- lighter in color

What happens when

Low water consumption + lots of sweating

Urine is:

- produced in smaller volumes

- darker in color (more concentrated —> less water to dissolve in)

Water balance

Water levels in body shouldn’t be too high/low. Body’s control amount of water & ions dissfuing in & out of cells

Antidiuretic hormone (ADH)

Stops water from leaving your body
