Lipid panel

Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, VLDL, Trig
Albumin (ALB)
Protein made in the liver. Keeps blood from leaking out of blood vessels.
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

Made in liver, intestines and kidneys. Also made by pregnant women.
Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT)
Found in Liver. Checks for liver disease or damage.
Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST)

Found in RBC, liver, heart, muscle tissue, pancreas and kidneys. Can help determine if the liver OR another organ is damaged.
Bilirubin (T. Bili and D. Bili)

Gives Stool brown color. Is produced when the liver breaks down old RBC.
Blood Glucose (Glu)
Measures amount of sugar in the blood. When levels remain high, can damage eyes, kidneys, nerves and blood vessels.
Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS)

Blood Glucose when patient has not eaten for 8 hrs.
2-hr Postprandial blood sugar (2hrpp)

Measures blood sugar 2 hours after a meal

Random Blood Sugar (RBS)

Measures blood glucose regardless of patients last meal.

Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT)

Used to diagnose pre-diabetes and diabetes. Is a series of measurements taken after a patient drinks a sweet liquid.

Blood Urea Nitrogen(BUN)

Made in liver and passed out in urine. This test is done to see how well kidneys are working.


Heart failure, dehydration or a diet high in protein can make levels higher.


Calcium (Ca)

Most important and common mineral in the body.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

A gaseous waste product made from metabolism. Is balanced by the lungs and kidneys.

Chloride (Cl)

One of the most important electrolytes in the blood. balances the amount of fluid inside and outside the cells.
Cholesterol and triglycerides tests (Chol and Trig)
Test that measures the total amount of fatty substances (lipids) in the blood.
