Genetically engineered babies also known as “Designer Babies” are children that are modified to your wants and desirer in what you want your child to look like. Typically women only use this procedure if they are infertile. The women decide what hair, eye color, or gender the baby is by doing this procedure. In this essay, I will explain how they’re made, the different religious debates about it, and why you shouldn’t do it. Genetic engineering allows infertile women with genetic defects in their mitochondria to have children. How are they made? The procedure known as Oplasmic transfer, is used to inject the mitochondria from the donor's egg into the egg of the infertile woman, in which vitro fertilization is performed on the egg. …show more content…
There are religious issues against genetic engineering. The issues are people believe that by genetically engineering your child you are trying to “play God.” The Christian views against this include “that the modifying of life is seen as “playing god” as god created life and people in his own image, to modify the basic genetics would be suggesting that God was flawed.” However, there are some Christian views that think positively of genetic engineering. They believe that genetic engineering is good if it helps to cure diseases. They believe this as Christian that Jesus was a healer and as God’s stewards it is our duty to make the world a better place. “Therefore if we can heal people through genetic engineering then it is ok.” The Muslim views are similar to the Christian ones. They believe that only god can change the genetic make up of a person. “Scientists who try to create or alter life are attempting to replace god, something which is a great sin.” Muslims also believe that it is a good as long as it’s to help cure diseases not to create the “perfect child.” In Muslim religion, they teach that they should do everything in their power to help improve human life. So that’s why some Muslims believe it is good to use genetic engineering only to help improve human life. However, it is often down to personal opinion to determine what is right or wrong in this
