While preventing obesity, our humanistic values should be examined. When Gawande visits Caselli, he recounts how on one primary street he passes over eighteen fast food restaurants (505). Could this be a cause of Caselli's behavior to overeat? However, our society teaches fat people to blame themselves for diet failure (NAAFA 466). The majority of people who diet fail and regain more weight because they blame themselves (Worley 471). However, parents can be highly to blame for unwillingness to set food parameters (Crister 462). Children learn how and what to eat at a young age and rarely changer habits throughout adulthood. Changes in society will benefit the obesity dilemma.
Some fat people only want to be accepted. Mary Worley has tried dieting for years and gives up because she realizes people should accept her for her personality, not her weight. Worley then experiences the marvels of being overweight when she attends a convention. Worley recalls "Here were all these fat people in stylish swimsuits and cover-ups, whereas on my home planet a fat person was expected to feel apologetic and embarrassed about her body-especially in a swimsuit
