Brazil deforestation has been a global issue for the past decades. In the Amazon rainforest, there have been many miles of trees cut down by loggers, ranchers, and farmers. This has happened ever since the 1970’s when “a flood of miners and settlers rushed into the Amazon rainforest of Brazil, hungry for gold and land” (Brown). “Clearing out the rainforest is basically like burning fossil fuels like oil and gas,” (Tollefson). Since there has been so much cutting down trees, there has been in an increase of 10 to 15% of global carbon dioxide emissions (Tollefson). They use the ashes to provide nutrients for the soil for planting food and crops. Burning down the rainforest just to produce better soil for planting crops is hurting the environment more than just cutting it down because it will release carbon dioxide when burning which will harm the air very much since not much oxygen is being produced by the trees (Tollefson).

Another main reason for the cause of deforestation is cattle ranchers. Cattle ranchers are destroying the rainforest by clearing as much as they can since Brazil is much known for producing a lot of beef (Brown). Farmers come in and expand their ranches so their profits can boost up. The more they expand their ranches, the more trees will be cleared up. They need to earn for money when they sell their goods. Since the rainforest is so big, farmers wants to clear up the land so they can use it for their farms and for production. Brazil had the largest cattle herd in the world and it has also topped the world’s largest exporter for beef. The cattle industry has made them one of the largest greenhouse emitter.
