World Consumption of American Culture The world is consumed by American culture. Why, you ask? It’s because according to America, those who aren’t democratic and capitalist are wrong. For the past 80 years it hasn’t been America trying to learn from its mistakes, it has been America dominating its political, economic, and wartime opponents no matter the playing field. On the surface it may seem that this is good for the US, but for others who don’t want to play along, they’ve got a problem on their hands. “Freedom,” as we Americans know it, is exactly how it sounds. You may do whatever you want (inside the law), think what you want, say what you want, wear what you want (as long as it’s not nothing). It also comes with a side note of “to be free you must be democratic, capitalist, and aware that whatever you say can be used against you in court of law.” Countries, populations who don’t necessarily want “freedom” are receiving the short end of the stick, because they are resisting the American way, which Americans make very, very hard to do. It’s like in the Cold War, America was a rabid anti-communist country. We went so far as to threaten to nuke Cuba, an aspiring Marxist island, for teaming up with the Soviet Union. They threatened first, but it was because of our blockade of their territory. This is all on the premise of protecting America, containing Communism, and insuring that “freedom” rings forever more.
