Improved Essays
Around eight hundred years ago, a small group from central Asia conquered much of the world and has been expanding since. They were called the Mongols. The Mongols didn’t have a very good reputation due to the destruction and death they caused, but is there more? I believe that the Mongols were very barbaric. They took countless lives, large amounts of land, and how they treated the people they captured.
The amount of lives that the Mongols took were far too many. In Document 4 it states that the Mongols took over 800,000 to 2,000,000 lives when the conquered Persia. They also took more than 4,000,000 lives excluding the Persians. This shows that they give no mercy and just kill. Also in the same document it says that “...it was commanded

In Document 1, it shows the amount of land that the Mongols conquered. If you look below the map, it shows that Genghis Khan took about 5,000,000 square miles of land. In order to get land, he must’ve had a great army to help him defeat other empires. This includes killing people inside the empires and capturing their king. People that didn’t follow his rules would’ve been killed and executed leading to people fearing him and allowing him to expand without disagreement.
The Mongols treated the people very poorly and were very cruel. In Document 5, it shows the image of a marksman executing a prisoner. If you read the caption, it says, “Others are being buried alive upside-down.” This shows that they are extremely barbaric because of how they are treating and executing their people. People should not be being buried upside-down and the others in the background should be defending their people. Even if they did something wrong there should be a way to fix it instead of public execution.
The Mongols were an empire that connected large amounts of land in the 13th century. The Mongols were very fierce and very barbaric.Although the Mongols had succeeded in expanding, they were also very barbaric. Then they severed the heads from the dead bodies and piled them up, keeping the men separate from the women and children. Obviously, the Mongols killing everything in sight of a rival city is very barbaric, and clearly shows the extent to which the Mongols were barbaric. In document two, it says that in battles, if one man ran away the whole group of men would be put to death. This document may have some exaggerations because it was written from the point of view of an outsider who could’ve been surprised because he was the first European to visit the Mongol homeland. The Mongols also took the fact of the people they killed, melted it and catapulted it on their houses, which shows barbarism because those acts are cruel and inhuman. (Doc 3) Documents 4 and 5 show evidence of barbarism because they talk about how the Mongols killed entire cities, even cats and dogs, and how they also buried people alive upside and down. The Mongols showed their savage-like ways in document 10 because it said drunkenness was considered an honorable act.…
