Name of Whistleblower: Allan Cutler
Allan Cutler, a former civil servant became a whistleblower because he felt a need to expose the corruption in the Canadian government. Government ought to spend money wisely and use these funds to help the people. However, when the purpose and process is not followed, the system collapses and someone needs to be held accountable. The Canadian federal government and the Liberal Party of Canada created a sponsorship program that ought to create awareness for the contribution of the government towards the industries in Quebec, and undermine the efforts of Parti Québécois (PQ), who at the time was trying to make Quebec a sovereign state. The program ran for 8 years from 1996 – 2004 but was discontinued because of corruption.

He writes that “For the last 10 years, I have been representing whistleblowers and giving suggestions on how they might want to address their situations. The decisions are always theirs. Some, learning what they face, have retreated and allowed corruption to continue. Fortunately, the majority have had the courage of their convictions and have fought the good fight—usually unsuccessfully” (Cutler, 2017). Most developed countries have policies that protects whistleblowers but Canada is currently lagging. Many people call Allan a hero but whistleblowers are always subject to bullying. This is a norm. Allan was subject to the same bullying response every whistleblower gets. However, he turned the negativity around and made the best out of it.
Completing this assignment thought me that you should be ready to accept the consequences when you decide to drift away from the crowd. When you become a whistleblower, you will be bullied and subject to hate mails depending on the severity of whistle.
