What Is The Difference Between Walmart And Costco's Quick Ratios

Decent Essays
Walmart, Inc. and Costco Wholesale Corporation’s quick ratios seem to be much lower than the industry average. For example, Walmart, Inc.’s quick ratio for 2016 was .24. This means that for every dollar of current liabilities, Walmart Inc. has 24 cents of liquid assets available. This clearly is not a strong ratio. Costco’s ratios are a bit higher than Walmart’s, but still not high enough to cover their current liabilities. The higher the quick ratio, the better the company’s liquidity position.

Rising debt liabilities have made increasing financial leverage. Lowe's has relied more on debt financing than low interest rates. In January 2016, the company's debt-to-total-capital ratio was 0.62 which is bigger than 0.53 in 2015 and 0.47 in 2014. Even though Lowe's has had rising financial leverage, it is still more financed by equity than its closest competitor, Home Depot, which had a debt-to-total-capital ratio of 0.77 as of January…

In 2014 and 2015, this ratio would decline going from 1.87 to 1.03. Indicating that for every dollar of liabilities they had approximately one dollar of assets. This shows that over the past five years, Nordstrom has become less liquid. On the other hand, while Macy’s has been historically less liquid, and had a lower ratio of current liabilities to current assets, as of 2015, their current ratio was 1.34, which is lower than 2014’s but higher than Nordstrom’s 2015 current ratio, indicating that while their company is more liquid than Nordstrom this past fiscal year, they are less liquid and less capable of paying off short term bills than they were in…

The excess inventories they have been unable to sell make up a significant proportion of Dynashears assets. Their current quick ratio, which is a measure of a businesses ability to meet current obligation through the use of its liquid assets, is at decent, but less strong 1.95 (appendix 5). Also, their quick ratio is not exhibiting the same consistent positive trend the current ratio is (excel sheet). This suggests that the current ratio is overestimating the company’s ability to meet their obligations, because it counts inventories as assets. If the firm is not able to sell the inventories, then the existence of those inventories does not illustrate their ability to pay their debts.…

Liquid ratio has increased from 0.43:1 to 0.23:1, this allows the company to pay back any immediate debt (4-6 months). The interest cover is profit before interest and tax over interest expense, which is 5.9 times for 2015 and 7.2 times for 2014, which is a decrease so means…
