The rooms overcrowded with prisoners with dim eyes which seem to enhance the darkness we all live in. No matter how many lanterns we light, and the endless amount of candles we burn; it is still darkness that encompasses our world. Even though the burning flames are insufficient in providing the light; there are cracks in these walls. Slivers of golden light from the roof above our heads. Rays of luminous light protruding from the walls around us. Offering us the small amounts of brightness into the darkness of our lives. Brightness from a sun that rises to offer us the light. Beyond repair, and never coming back from the defect of their life. Heads drooping like wilted flowers, shoulders fallen down like teardrops. Eyes that hold no sparkle of hope left, just hazy reflections of their gray life. How can we accept such a fate. Allow us to become beaten down like the ground we tread on. Shall we go down like the sun at the end of the day and never expect to rise in the morning? We are our own sanctuary from the night. If we give up and refuse to be the light that illuminates this world, we will forever live in the terror and fear of the night.
I refuse to sink into the status we are given. Whether I am bound by the pain of my past, or tied to the worthlessness of my future I will overcome what I am expected to be. We are not only prisoners of this camp. We are more than that, much more. We are prisoners of our own fear and doubt. We are our only restrictions. If we fall or fail it is because our own resilience has given up on us. Things have to be broken before they can be restored. Those who have been broken, are more easily reestablished. We shall not abandon our resilience and give up our chance for restoration. Leave behind the pain, doubt and fear of who we are thought to be and rise up as who we truly are. We will rise and shed our blank stares like a second skin, leaving behind the determination of those who were
