CHAPTER TWO The City of Locked Doors Eleven Months Later The sky was an opaque, gray-brown color; a thick fog enveloped the city like a wet, sepia blanket, starving the populous of a fresh breath, or ray of slanted sunlight. Seldom was there a variation in hue from horizon to opposite horizon, it was stubbornly blended, one single, dull color through and through.…

No one is certain that Balthazar is even his real name and rumors abound that he is the Black Visage, the most powerful necromancer of all time and to be the same Black Visage believed slain by Kaylunse, the golden knight, thousands of years ago. I shrank back --but the closing walls pressed me resistless onward. At length for my seared and writhing body there was no longer an inch of foothold on the firm floor of the prison. I struggled no more, but the agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long, and final scream of despair. I felt that I tottered upon the brink. My right hand was my last chance to survive.…

Deep in the dark, foggy woods a woman screamed for her life; she seemed to be in her early 20s. She ran quickly, very far away from what seemed to be a small girl that was covered in blood, her skin was brown as the dirt and her chocolate-brown hair covered her gruesome face. She was swinging from the trees to get to the woman. The woman was obviously terrified of this little girl as she had multiple shivers down her spine and her face was obviously showing a sign that she was scared to death. Suddenly, the woman tripped on a thick branch and fell.…

For once, the prosperity of their lives seemed to drag on peacefully. The harvest would be lauded as the best in centuries; a surplus had come in by the ton. Children laughing, prancing almost, running along the street with ease. Peace and tranquility seemed to be an endless stream of warmth bubbling away the blood that had been shed so long ago. Locals would occasionally stumble past a lonely corpse that sat peacefully in its final resting spot.…
