It applies sociology principles to situations found in everyday life. It focuses on social problems and/or questions in American society and helps public institutions find ways to solve them; problems such as, equal rights, homelessness, education, unemployment, housing, and healthcare, etc. Public sociology can also help private companies and organizations answer in-depth questions regarding certain issues or questions by analyzing information gathered through research. It uses research findings to solve problems or answer questions found in society and to help those companies come up with solutions. Honestly, I believe that I am a combination of both a performance-oriented and learning-oriented student, however, I believe that I lean more toward the performance-oriented student because I set goals, such as, earning good grades and earning my graduate degree. While I have a tendency to get upset if I don’t do well on an assignment, earning my degree is my ultimate goal in taking classes.
